The Real Saint Patrick's day
Welcome back to English-Podcasts In this episode we get to hear from Craig who tell us how Irish people celebrate Saint Patrick’s day even when they no longer live in Ireland.
Notes
Saint Patrick’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick, is a religious and cultural holiday held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patirck (c. 385 – c. 461), the patron saint of Irealnd. It is now a public holiday and is celebrated all over the world by people who enjoy Irish beer and enjoy the fun of dressing up in green!
But who was Saint Patrick?
Saint Patrick was a 5th-century Romano-British Christian missionary and Bishop in Ireland. Not much is known about him except that he spent his life converting the “pagan” Irish to Christainity. His efforts led to the allegory that he drove “snakes” i.e. heathen practices, out of Ireland, despite the fact that snakes do not inhabit the region.
